Welcome to the Fluency Tutor
Interactive Demo. Give it a try!
Click on the links below to access the interactive Fluency Tutor
Demonstration area. Each section allows you to try out a different
area of Fluency Tutor.
See how pupils can use Fluency Tutor to practise their
reading.
The practise area allows the pupil to hear passages being
read aloud with high quality text-to-speech with dual synchronised
highlighting which has been proven to assist pupils with word
recognition and comprehension. Pupils can listen to a passage as
often as they need to better understand the content and its
context.
Additionally, pupils can record themselves reading a passage and
hear it played back. They can also take a comprehension quiz at any
time during their practise and see their score. When finished
recording a practise passage, Fluency Tutor will even give them
their reading speed!
A dictionary and translator are included for pupils to look up
the meaning of any words they do not understand or to translate
them into Spanish.
Note: When recording a passage, please ensure that
you have a microphone.
See how teachers mark a completed assessment by listening
to the pupil's recording.
If a teacher hears an error, they click on the word in the passage
and select the error type from the list that is displayed. Error
types include mispronunciation, hesitation, omission, substitution,
repetition, transposition, and self correction. The word will then
be highlighted in red to show that an error has been made.
Insertion errors can be marked by clicking between the two words
where the insertion took place and selecting insertion. A red caret
will then be placed indicating an insertion. As the exercise is
being marked, the Details panel will display the error types and
frequency as well as the words correct per minute score.
Teachers can also click on a word to "Set Last Word" which
indicates the last word the pupil read in one minute. This
will then be used to calculate their Words Correct Per Minute
(WCPM) score.
Teachers have full control over the marking process, can clear
all errors and start again, or even reassign the exercise.
When finished marking, teachers can review the comprehension
quiz questions and see the pupil's responses. Finally, teachers
score each assessment for expression, phrasing, smoothness, and
pace. Fluency Tutor then automatically calculates the final prosody
score on a scale of 1 to 4 (with 4 being the
highest).
See how teachers can view pupil progress in several
ways.
Fluency Tutor allows a teacher to view a pupil's progress over
time. By clicking on the tools icon beside a pupil's name, the
teacher can select 'view reports' and see a visual representation
of the pupil's progress.
The teacher can select from a dropdown list of reports
generating historical data to track pupils' reading progress.
Report types include: Fluency measurement, Error analysis, Lexile
Level performance, and Problem words.
