We offer a range of Professional Development offerings to help you get up-to-speed quickly on our products. Our goal is to ensure that you get the most out of your investment.

Read&Write GOLD

Effective onsite training is the cornerstone of successful implementation. We offer Professional Development that focuses on both the functionality of the tools as well as the practical application of Read&Write GOLD across instructional settings. Our training provides a framework for teachers to use the software to more easily differentiate instruction while supporting student acquisition of skills such as building vocabulary, reading comprehension, organizing information, researching, and higher order thinking skills. Highly interactive and hands-on teaching provides the foundation for teachers to integrate Read&Write GOLD into classroom instruction for each student's unique needs. 

Our flexible workshops include full day workshops and interactive webinar trainings. By limiting group sizes, the emphasis is on a hands-on experience to ensure that when attendees return to their school or district, they can immediately start using the software with students.

Full Day Workshops:

These hands-on 6-hour workshops introduce the tools found on the Read&Write GOLD toolbar and allow for practice with the functionality of each. Demonstrations and discussions will focus on practical applications of the features, how they can be used to modify or adapt instruction for specific learning needs, and how students can use the tools independently to help with reading, research, writing, and higher order thinking skills. Full day workshops are available for both Read&Write GOLD for PC and Read&Write GOLD for Mac.

 Full day workshops include:

  • Introductory - This intensive interactive session will give participants a thorough look at all of the tools on the toolbar.  A demonstration of how each is accessed and used with hands on time to practice will be included along with some basic applications to help all different kinds of learners in their classrooms.
  • Advanced  - For those who have a strong working knowledge of Read&Write GOLD, this is the perfect workshop to apply what you know to lesson building and strategies for practical application in the morning.  Once all warmed up, the afternoon will consist of one specialized workshop concentrating on the area of your choice.  Choose from topics such as vocabulary building, using the research tools for more than just research, and more.
  • Train the Trainer  - This session is designed for a small number of educators who have a good working knowledge of Read&Write GOLD and wish to be effective trainers within their own school or district.  Read&Write GOLD tools and their functionality as well as practical application is the first step followed by learning to effectively convey this information to others.  Intensive and rewarding, this will build a solid foundation for future training.
  • Specialized Training  - Customize your full day of training by choosing two 3-hour workshops or the have the same workshop conducted once in the morning and once in the afternoon. 

Specialized topics include:

- Vocabulary Building - Vocabulary is critical to comprehension, thus word attack and word study skills are critical to increasing reading abilities. Using Read&Write GOLD, we will practice using strategies and create examples to take and share.
- Research Plus - The skills required for research are those of higher level thinking. By using the research features of  Read&Write GOLD to break down the various tasks, we can make each research stage attainable for all students.
- Launching Reluctant Writers - Using the Read&Write GOLD writing tools, participants learn how to structure and encourage various types of writing through specific strategies. Organizing, brainstorming, summarizing, and the stages of the writing  process will be addressed.
- Support for the English Language Learner- Increasing language acquisition through vocabulary strategies and word attack skills for all levels of learners will be presented. The use of reflective questioning and writing as a method of increasing comprehension will also be shown.
- Acquiring Critical Reading Skills - Read&Write GOLD's key core tools and their functionality as well as some basic applications will be reviewed. Specific background and needs of audience will be taken into consideration along with student's needs.
- Overview Session for Teachers - Read&Write GOLD's key core tools and their functionality as well as some basic applications will be reviewed. Specific background and needs of audience will be taken into consideration along with student's needs..
- Overview Session for Parents & Students - Students (grades 3 through 12) and their parents will learn together how Read&Write GOLD can help them more easily complete in school and home assignments. Interactive sessions will be encouraged.
- Overview Session for Teachers - This interactive overview session will take participants on a quick look at the key core tools on four of the toolbars. A demonstration of the functionality of each core tool with a small amount of time for hands on time to practice will be sprinkled with some basic applications to help all different kinds of learners in their classrooms.
- Overview Session for College Instructors - Learn the basics of how Read&Write GOLD works and how it can be used to  make instructional changes and modifications to meet the diverse requirements of the postsecondary student.
- Overview Session for College Students - This workshop will cover how Read&Write GOLD can help students manage a new level of assignment expectation, self-check their writing, assist with research, and make their life easier when completing course reading requirement.

Fluency Tutor

We offer multiple Professional Development options for Fluency Tutor to ensure success, including kick off meetings (virtual or on-site),  on-site workshops, and webinars.

Kick-off meeting:

  • Establish goals and benchmarks for successful implementation.
  • Review Fluency Tutor system requirements.
  • Guide the Fluency Tutor administrator in uploading teacher and student accounts.
  • Review teacher training needs and materials.

6 hour on-site training:

  • This training will guide educators through the process of setting up groups, setting goals, assigning exercises, marking-up student readings, reviewing student interface, and analyzing reports. The instructor will also cover the Instructional process and applications and help with trouble-shooting technical issues. A follow up webinar will be conducted to answer questions. Follow up phone or email support is also available. 

3 hour webinar training:

  • This training provides an online alternative to an onsite workshop. The training includes two webinars - a 2 hour initial webinar and a 1 hour follow up webinar, During the intial webinar, the instructor will guide educators through the process of setting up groups, setting goals, assigning exercises, marking-up student readings, reviewing student interface, and analyzing reports. A follow up webinar will be conducted to answer questions. Follow up phone or email support is also available.
