The EdTech conferences you NEED to know about this year

2017 is off to a busy start with many students around the world back to school and lots of interesting education conferences taking place in the next few months.

At Texthelp, January and February are extremely busy months for us as we’re flying all over the globe to attend events and conferences. To make life a little easier for you, we’ve detailed the events  we think you need to know about, and highlighted useful  sessions for you to attend.

We’re kicking off 2017 in style in Florida at The Assistive Technology Industry Association’s (ATIA) annual conference. It’s a must see show for AT specialists and others working with diverse learners. ATIA kicks off on the 18th of January and we’ll be there for the full four days.

Martin McKay, CTO, will be participating in three sessions including, “What Big Data Can Tell Us About Assistive Technology Effectiveness”, “3 Can’t-Miss Reading and Writing Supports for Google Apps Users” (with Jason Carroll, Global Products Manager), and “Assessments, Accessibility Standards, and AT: Making it All Work Together”. Jason Carroll will also be participating in the “Ignite Research” session. Finally, Kathleen Colburn, Project Manager, will be hosting “Support Struggling Learners with Read&Write for Google Chrome”.
If you can't make one of our sessions be sure to attend sessions by our friends Brad Held, Rhianon Gutierrez, Michelle Nielsen or Peter Bertram. Find out more in the Session Directory.

The Future of Educational Technology Conference (FETC), kicks off the EdTech conferences for 2017 and is being held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, January 24th - 27th. Last year was our first year exhibiting at this popular future of EdTech conference and we loved it so much that we’re packing our bags and heading back for another year.

The event looks at the integration of technology across the curriculum and delivers strategies and best practices for supporting student success and school wide advancement. Check out My Planner to see what sessions are being offered and search by session track.

We are excited to meet the thousands of educators and administrators in attendance, so be sure to stop by our booth (number 958) to chat to our Texthelpers and see our products in action!

Hot on the heels of FETC, our UK contingent will be off to BETT in the London ExCeL, January 25th - 28th. BETT is an annual innovative learning technology event which gives educators the opportunity to check out the latest education technology and hear from industry experts from around the world. We’ve been exhibiting at Bett for many years and with over 35,000 people attending each year it’s one of the world’s largest education shows.

This year we’ll be exhibiting at booth C141. BETT is free to attend so make sure to register soon and once you’ve got your badge drop by our stand to see all the new additions to the Texthelp family.

The fun doesn’t stop there. At the beginning of February, our Texthelpers will be heading to Austin, Texas for the Texas Computer Education Association’s (TCEA) Annual Convention & Exposition, taking place February 6th - 10th. The convention will focus on best practices for engaging students, increasing productivity, and innovating teaching and learning through the use of technology. With hundreds of sessions to choose from, you can cater this conference to meet your specific interests and needs.

In between sessions, be sure to visit the Texthelp booth (number 1720) so that we can update you on all the work we’ve been doing since last year.

Google Summits

If your school is using G Suite for Education (GSFE) we’d also highly recommend attending an EdTechTeam Summit featuring Google for Education. ‘Google Summits’ are typically weekend-long events run throughout the year, which take place at schools already successfully implementing GSFE. There are over 100 Google Summits scheduled for 2017 and new dates/locations are always being added. We’re a platinum sponsor of these events and try to exhibit at as many as possible through the year, so hopefully we’ll get to meet you at some of these. You can learn more about Google Summits and find one near you at

We’re attending lots of other national events throughout the year, including:

Special Educational Needs Conference: Innovations in inclusive learning - Salford, England, March 8
CSUN Assistive Technology Conference - San Diego, CA, February 27 - March 4
ISTE 2017 Conference & Expo - San Antonio, TX, June 25 - 28
International Literacy Association Conference - Orlando, FL, July 15-17
AHEAD Conference - Orlando, FL, July 17 - 22

Although not an extensive list, hopefully this gives you a few ideas of what events are coming up and where you can go to gain some new knowledge and skills to kickstart 2017.
