A Brief Guide to Ensure Your School Meets KHDA Inclusion Policies

If you tuned in to our recent ‘Transforming School Literacy’ webinar, you’ll know that creating an inclusive learning environment is at the heart of the new Inclusion Policy framework from the KHDA. Hopefully, our expert guests provided you with some useful information and tips on how to ensure every student in your school is equipped to reach their full potential. 

Given the breadth of points covered by the new policy framework, we’ve compiled a short guide to help teachers achieve academic excellence and provide inclusive support. Read on to discover and explore just some of the most important factors to consider when administering the KHDA’s new Inclusion Policy in your classroom.

  • From the beginning, it’s important to accurately and quickly identify the type of SEND a student has. This way, you can plan lessons and use the right tools to help strengthen their pace of learning and academic development. Consider a UDL approach that celebrates a student’s strengths while supporting what they may find challenging. After all, every learner is different!
  • Consider the needs of each student, and offer them the same amount of due care and participation you would other learners. This benefits a student not just in the classroom, but outside of school too.
  • It is important that each member of staff plays their part to create a culture that welcomes, accepts and values students with SEND. Teachers should all be trained to provide the necessary support.
  • Use appropriate technologies, including assistive technology, as a tool to support learning and empower SEN students to reach their full potential. What’s more, investing in classroom learning support tools benefits every single learner!
  • Cultivate a culture where inclusive education is the norm, provide training for all educators and share information with parents thereby ensuring that your inclusive environment thrives.
  • Inclusive education is necessary preparation for active participation in an inclusive world and an inclusive life. It’s essential that appropriate resources are in place to support the variety of learning needs students may have - budgets, classroom support technology, and general environmental accessibility must be taken into consideration.
  • Working partnerships with schools to develop alternative education or vocational pathways helps prepare students for higher education and employment. Remember! The efforts you make in the classroom today will have a hugely positive impact on a learner’s abilities and development in later life! Make sure that trainers, lecturers and other teaching staff possess the basic knowledge and experience of inclusive education principles and techniques for their students.
