New “active listening apps for Chromebooks” program

Google for Education has just announced it’s second educational bundle of apps -- active listening apps on Chromebooks -- and we couldn’t be happier to say that Fluency Tutor for Google is included.

The new active listening apps on Chromebooks bundle will be available through Chromebook resellers across the US and includes our product Fluency Tutor for Google and Listenwise, a tool that harnesses the power of active listening to advance literacy and learning in all students.

Great for time-stretched teachers, Fluency Tutor makes reading aloud more fun and satisfying for students who need some extra support. It’s a big help for struggling and reluctant readers, as well as students learning English as a second language.

Fluency Tutor lets students record themselves reading different types of texts, like web content, Google Docs, and almost 500 Lexile-leveled reading passages. Students can listen to their recordings before submitting them for teacher feedback and self-reflect if they’re speaking the way they intended. Students can practice at their own pace and away from classroom pressures, which is less stressful than asking reluctant student to read aloud in front of the whole class.  Reading assistance tools, like text-to-speech, dictionary, picture dictionary and translate tools, are available to help students practice and reach proficiency.

Ideal for schools using G Suite for Education, Fluency Tutor is a Chrome app that integrates seamlessly with Google Drive and Classroom. And since it works with any online content, it's the perfect complement to other existing teacher approaches.

“We know that students may not always have the confidence to read out loud,” says Mandy Marlo, a 6th grade teacher at Chagrin Falls, Ohio. “Being able to practice with a tool like Fluency Tutor, where they can rehearse and record themselves and then listen back to their recordings is invaluable.”

Tens of thousands of teachers around the world are already using Fluency Tutor with students of all ages and ability levels. Google for Education’s recent announcement to include Fluency Tutor in the bundle will help students to become confident readers and engaged listeners.
