TeacherCast - Great Online EdTech Resource for Educators

Last month, we stumbled upon a funny little excerpt from a podcast that one of Texthelp’s products was mentioned in. In the excerpt, a guest of the show said that if she could only bring one Chrome extension on a deserted island, she would take Read&Write for Google Chrome with the Word Prediction tool [see video below]. What struck us wasn’t that we were mentioned, while we were honored that we made Samantha’s island choice, it was the quality of the show’s resourcefulness, the beat of the conversations and the manner of how the host ran the show. It was informative while still fun to watch. It had some laugh out loud moments and was really professionally put together. I wanted to watch more and I just had to get in touch with the creator and host.

I’m talking about TeacherCast, a website and weekly podcast ran by one man and that man is Jeff Bradbury. Jeff is not your average broadcaster that does this for a living and that’s that… this is a hobby for Jeff and when he told me that, I was bowled over. What he produces doesn’t seem like “just a hobby”. It’s looks like it takes hours upon hours of researching, rehearsing and editing but Jeff does not have hours upon hours. See, Jeff is a full time educator, he teaches Music Theory and Music History and is the Director of Orchestras in the North Brunswick Township School District. He is also a highly respected educational consultant, web developer, and renowned speaker and writer. It doesn’t stop there folks, Jeff is also a violinist, a husband AND father of triplets! Blown away by his resume and his dedication to all things education, we just had to feature TeacherCast on this week’s blog post.

TeacherCast is “A Place for Teachers to Help other Teachers”.  It is a wonderful resource for educators to come and watch any of the TeacherCast, TechEducator and PrincipalCast videos for Best Practices, How To’s and to check out new apps featured on the Apps Spotlight section, which are 15-minute product demos. Tune in every Sunday night at 7pm (EST)for the TechEducator Podcast LIVE on TeacherCast.tv. Check out the schedule of Live Podcasts coming up. There is even a TeacherCast University page, where you’ll find a selection of workshops and presentations that Jeff has done, you can choose to watch a lesson from his “Online Courses” and view samplings of Jeff’s keynote speeches.

Jeff is a Google Certified Teacher so in turn, much of what is discussed does focus heavily on Google and Apple tools and products but there is something for everyone in there. Recently added to the site, due to high demand, is the “EduShop” section, which is an Amazon store featuring products that are highly recommended by Jeff and his colleagues. A portion of the proceeds goes to supporting TeacherCast. That’s another thing… this whole organization is supported out of Jeff’s own pocket!

We hope you will check out Jeff’s little “hobby” and all that it offers. =) TeacherCast truly is more than just some videos put together. It’s free workshops, webinars and discussions. It’s a community of educators coming together to share and learn. Texthelp looks forward to working with Jeff in the future, so stay tuned!
