What to expect at DSA Connect 2022

On 11 May, join us for the first ever, DSA Connect. A free online PD event for Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) Assessors and educators supporting disabled students.

Our Head of DSA Nicole, explains why we want to join together to make a difference for students with disabilities. As well as sharing what her must see sessions are and what to expect on the day. Keep reading if you're thinking about going.

We want to help each DSA student to understand and be understood.

For students who qualify for the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) getting the right type of support makes a lifetime of difference. Whether at school, college or university, when we understand we are more confident. Opportunities open up, and we can achieve more than we thought.

During our one day event we’ll share practical advice to support you in providing personal learning choice for disabled students. Our speakers will deliver sessions on how to make the most of technology to give students increased confidence, productivity and success.

We have a packed schedule of talks, sessions and Q&As with experts on neurodiversity and assistive technology. So whether you’re an assessor, learning support staff, a disability advisor or an AT specialist, you’ll find the takeaways shared during the event helpful.

Navigating transitions

If accessing DSA is a barrier in itself to entering and achieving within Higher Education, what can we do differently? We’ll break down the reasons why students may or may not get access to the DSA and how to promote the scheme more widely.

Lessons from students

We couldn’t hold this event without a strong student voice. During DSA Connect we’ll be hearing stories of impact from DSA students past, present and future. We’ll hear how the right support tools impacted their education experiences and beyond.

Practical webinars

How can specific tools support different learning needs? To answer that question we’ll be hosting a series of learning needs workshops throughout the day hosted by experts on dyslexia, mental health, autism and more.
