What is dyslexia?
Dyslexia is one of the most common learning challenges affecting both children and adults. While no two individuals struggle with the same set of challenges. Most people with dyslexia have to work harder than their peers to develop their literacy skills.
Defined by the International Dyslexia Association, "“Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurobiological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities."
Lifelong support for people with dyslexia
Although signs of dyslexia may be picked up in early childhood, often diagnosis doesn’t come until later in education, and can even go undiagnosed into adulthood and the workplace. It’s important to understand that dyslexia doesn’t end when a child’s education ends. So whatever support a child or young person receives during their education needs to be carried through into adult life and the workplace.
