EquatIO® is now Free for Teachers!

As an early holiday present to all of you incredible teachers out there, we are excited to announce that EquatIO is now FREE for teachers!

EquatIO is our easy-to-use software solution that enables students at all levels to create digital equations, formulas, geometric shapes, graphs and more directly on their computer or Chromebook.

Our goal in launching EquatIO earlier this year was to truly make math digital and accessible for all students. As EquatIO’s popularity has grown, we’ve come to realize that in order to achieve this goal, we simply must allow all teachers to use all features of EquatIO for free.

After all, how can a student fully benefit if the teacher is limited in how they can engage their students? That’s why we have decided to make EquatIO free for teachers.

Through our Free for Teachers program, teachers will be able to get the following premium features at no additional cost:

  • Unlimited handwriting recognition
  • Math, Chemistry and Formula Prediction
  • Integration in Google Forms, Slides, Sheets & Drawings
  • Dynamic graphing
  • Shapes input in EquatIO mathspace
Plus, we are constantly adding new features to EquatIO, so as those become available, you will get them for free as well!

Here’s how it works:

If you are a teacher and do not already have EquatIO, head to our website and install it on the platform or platforms of your choice. Pro tip: Don’t forget what email address you used to install EquatIO - this will come in handy later. Once you’ve installed EquatIO, you can then register for Free for Teachers.

If you are a teacher and already have a subscription to EquatIO (either the 30-day trial of premium or the free version), all you have to do is register!

To register, visit www.texthelp.com/freeforteachers and fill out the form with all the required information. Be sure to use the same email address that you used to install EquatIO! If you are interested in trying our literacy support tool, Read&Write, you can sign up to get it free-of-charge through this form as well.

That’s it! Once confirmed, your EquatIO subscription will automatically be converted into a Free for Teachers premium license.

We hope you enjoy!

If a teacher has the pro-version and the students are past the 30 day pro version trial can they still access entering math formulas into a teacher created google form that is shared with them??

Deena Kimmel 13/10/2020 3:51:01 PM
Hi Catherine - The students will be able to see that math images that the teacher has included in the Google Form, but they will not be able to use EquatIO to respond. Thanks!

Jennifer Mari-Wyka 6/10/2020 12:45:40 PM
Great extension!! Huge fan! Teaching virtually it's helped a lot with students being able to show their work. I see that I can register for the free Teacher program but would that also enable my students to use it?

Deena Kimmel 6/10/2020 4:40:25 PM
Hi Jennifer - Thank you for your comments. We're so glad EquatIO has been helping out this year. If you sign up for Free for Teachers, it won't impact the status of your students' licenses. So, if they are still within the first 30 days of using EquatIO, they'll continue to get all of the premium features for free. After 30-days, they will still have access to the free version of EquatIO. If your school/district would like students to have access to the premium version, we have a variety of licensing options that can be purchased based on the needs of the school/district. If you'd like to learn more, please fill out the Contact Us form. Thank you!

I was wondering how to use equatio for Chemistry on google form. superscripts, subscripts and chemical equations for example. Thank you.

Deena Kimmel 1/10/2020 12:42:36 PM
Hi Silva - Here is a quick video to use the Chemistry prediction in EquatIO: https://youtu.be/BxUjDqtmAvs. While it focuses on Google Docs, the process is the same in Google Forms. Hope that helps!

Hola!

Deena Kimmel 2/09/2020 1:16:49 PM
Hi Suanne - Glad to hear you are enjoying EquatIO. We're sorry to hear you are having issues with the student licenses. Can you please email support@texthelp.com? They'll be able to take a look to see what the problem might be. Thanks!

Mindy McCoy 26/08/2020 5:43:04 PM
What come in the free student package. Is it enough for them to write fractions and square roots? We have it on all of our student chromebooks right now but I am curious what will stay and what will disappear after the free trial?

Deena Kimmel 26/08/2020 7:01:49 PM
Hi Mindy - You can find a break-down of premium and freemium features at the bottom of the EquatIO web page: https://www.texthelp.com/products/equatio/. Let us know if you have any more questions. Thanks!

Rosa 25/08/2020 3:46:12 PM
Teachers have other ways to make math equations and symbols or pictures but if we are trying to determine if a student understands what we are teaching they need to be able to write mathematically. So this leads to my question: why is equatIO NOT free for students????

Deena Kimmel 26/08/2020 3:02:51 PM
Hi Rosa - Thank you for your comments and question. There is a free version of EquatIO that students can use. If schools/districts would like their students to have access to the premium version, we have a variety of licensing options that can be purchased based on the needs of the school/district. If you'd like to learn more, please fill out the Contact Us form. Thank you!

Deena Kimmel 30/07/2020 12:57:49 PM
Hi Elena! Thanks for signing up! Your students can access the premium version of EquatIO for 30-days, after which they will get the free version with limited features. If you'd like your students to have the premium versions, we have a pilot program, or we can discuss licensing with your school/district. Thanks!

Melanie Bienstock 7/05/2020 4:17:01 AM
Hi. As all of the above have said, I am only getting equatio for google docs, not forms etc.. and also the handwriting recognition that I had under the free version must’ve expired? So, I signed up for the premium subscription and I got a confirmation email, Is that the same as an activation email because I still cannot access equatio for google forms .. I really could use this remote learning. I had it for a few weeks and it just disappeared! I guess the fee version expired, So, are you going to tell me to email the address you told the ones above me? Thanks so much !!!

Deena Kimmel 7/05/2020 12:26:51 PM
Hi Melanie - It can take up to 24 hours for the Free for Teachers subscription to come into affect. If after 24 hours you still don't have access, yes, you should email support@texthelp.com. Thank you!

Hi, do you have a user guide on how to use EquatiO on an Ipad or within Ipad apps.
Thanks

Deena Kimmel 24/04/2020 12:57:54 PM
Hi Jim - Our current integration with ipads is through EquatIO mathspace, which you can access by going to equat.io in Safari. Here is a guide to mathspace: https://www.texthelp.com/Uploads/MediaLibrary/texthelp/US-Training-Documents/EquatIO-Mathspace-Quick-Reference-Guide-2_1.pdf. I thought this was my saving grace and was so excited to incorporate this into my assessments while we are distance learning... My students just informed me that they are not able to type mathematical expressions into the google forms I created :( Is there anything you can do during this difficult time? Asking my students to purchase a premium account is not an option during this time of crisis. Please help!

Deena Kimmel 3/04/2020 3:46:54 PM
Hi Rose! We'd be more than happy to help you and your students out during this time. If you could please fill out this brief form, someone from you area will reach out ASAP: https://text.help/EclkGO. Thank you!

Nicholas Schuler 25/03/2020 3:32:21 PM
Are students able to use Equatio for free? With the quarantine and distance learning, it would be helpful for them to have this. But I teach in a district where most students could not afford to purchase it.

Deena Kimmel 25/03/2020 3:47:58 PM
Hi Nicholas - We'd be happy to help you out during this unprecedented time. We just need a bit more information from you to make sure we're giving you and your students what you need. So, if you could please fill out this brief form, someone from your area will reach out to you shortly: https://mautic.texthelp.com/remote-learning---general-enquiry. Thank you!

Sam Chung-Yew 10/11/2019 5:42:20 PM
Before I get Equat10, I am wondering if I need to download the app on my students' devices as well? Or, can they use the functions of Equat10 in the google forms I put it in?

thanks!

Deena Kimmel 11/11/2019 5:32:41 PM
Hi Sam! Your students do not need to have EquatIO on their computers to see the equations that you've put into Google Forms. However, if you want them to be able to respond with EquatIO in Google Forms, they will need to have the premium version of EquatIO installed on their computers. Let us know if you need any more information. Thanks!

Erin Henley 31/10/2019 6:27:46 PM
Can you use EquatIO in google forms with the free teacher account? I signed up but it will not work.

Deena Kimmel 1/11/2019 1:34:30 PM
Hi Erin! Yes, you should be able to use EquatIO in Google Forms with the premium, free for teacher account. Please contact support@texthelp.com and they can look into what may be causing the issue. Thanks!
