"I just launched a new website and have been using ReachDeck's compliance tool [Auditor]. It’s been so helpful. Before ReachDeck, we were using built in functionality in WordPress for broken link scanning but it doesn't work effectively."
WCAG is the acronym for the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, defined by W3C.org. WCAG 2.1 is the latest version of these guidelines, published in 2018.
There are three levels of WCAG compliance guidelines, known as A, AA and AAA. A is the most basic level of accessibility compliance, AAA is the most comprehensive level, but is not always possible or practical to meet every single requirement.
WCAG 2.1 AA is a requirement by law for public websites in some jurisdictions. It offers reasonably comprehensive support for users with disabilities.
As well as being a legal requirement, it is generally good practice to meet as many WCAG compliance guidelines as possible, to ensure the best experience for all your website users.
For more information see Understanding WCAG from w3c.org.
For a list of all the WCAG guidelines that ReachDeck can check for, see this support article.
When you are set up as a ReachDeck customer, your website will be initially scanned to check for compliance issues, readability problems and broken links. You'll be able to view your report in the ReachDeck dashboard.
Following your initial scan, you can run a scan on demand using the Scan Now option on the ReachDeck dashboard. To run a scan, ReachDeck Auditor doesn’t need to be installed on your website. It scans it remotely, emulating a user browsing every page on your website.
The ReachDeck dashboard and reports show a color coded summary for the errors on your website. The color chosen indicates how widespread problems are across your website;
It’s possible to have a low accessibility error count and a high readability error count. So, you could see green in your Compliance report and red in your Readability report.
ReachDeck scans your website to check for accessibility issues. ReachDeck doesn't automatically change your website content or structure. ReachDeck reports will identify what issues occur, which pages they occur on, and the location of individual errors. Allowing your web developers to take action.
ReachDeck also analyses your content for issues that could make it difficult to read. ReachDeck Editor can be used to identify and fix issues in existing content, and also be used when writing new content before it's published.
